Community Leader Green Fondo 2023
“This was the hardest and most exciting thing I have ever done in my entire life. As a Black Girls Do Bike Community Leader Awardee, I was given the opportunity to participate in the Climate Ride up and down Mount Shenandoah. I would not have been able to do it without the award.
The views were breathtaking, but I couldn’t stop because I had a mountain to climb. At first, I thought I wouldn’t make it, but the Green Fondo support team was there with nutrition, mechanical support, the van (which I didn’t take), and a “You Got This!” when needed. My fellow BGDB sisters were also cheering me on as I slowly climbed the never-ending hills. I learned so much about myself while climbing Shenandoah. First, we need to preserve the beauty of this planet and all of its natural resources. Secondly, anything is possible if you have the right support team by your side…even cycling up a mountain.
Thank you so much for this opportunity!!!
I will never forget it!”

I was so excited to be going, I trained for weeks. However, there was no amount of training that would have prepared me for that three-mile climb up Shenandoah on day one after lunch. It was life changing!
