A whopping 2,456 fossil fuel representatives are in attendance at COP28, according to new research just released by @heated.world

To put that in perspective, there were just 636 at COP27 in Egypt which was already a 25% increase on the year before. 📈

It’s clear that the oil and gas execs are doubling down on their efforts to thwart a phase-out of fossil fuels.

On the other hand, there has been some progress with 50 national oil companies (which account for 40% of global oil production) signing the Oil and Gas Decarbonisation Charter.

This signals their aim to achieve decarbonisation across their operations by 2050, curb routine flaring, and crack down on upstream methane emissions.

The question remains, is this action bold enough to keep 1.5C within reach?

"The city began implementing "superblocks" — "su "The city began implementing "superblocks" — "superillas" in Catalan — a decade ago as a way to cut air pollution. The project essentially limited through-traffic in a cluster group of nine square city blocks, creating greener and more pedestrian-friendly streets."

"Early opposition to the pilot project soon gave way to widespread support as residents experienced the benefits of quieter, cleaner streets and intersections that functioned more as parks than thoroughfares. Since then, the model has been replicated in neighborhoods across the city."

Barcelona is a decade into transforming many of its streets into green, car-light public spaces.
The effort is admired by urban planners around the world and could be a model for US cities.
Americans are increasingly demanding dense, walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods.

What our participants have to say

I ride to encourage more people to walk the walk and ride the ride. Climate Ride is a fantastic organization that is raising awareness, raising funds, and educating people.

ClimateRide Death Valley was a powerful, positive, life impacting experience. The ClimateRide team let me be challenged in a spot in the world I never would have experienced in this way, safely and feeling well supported, while having fun and seriously exploring climate issues with great people. Gave me new eyes and perspective and hopeful energy on the issue.
