Climate Ride is committed to building an inclusive environmental movement, led by people with varied backgrounds and perspectives. We provide awards for community and climate leaders. These awards are given to bike coalitions and eligible organizations so that their Climate Ride teams can better represent the diversity in their communities and widen the conversation on sustainability. Awards are also directly given by Climate Ride to eligible candidates. We prioritize these awards for individuals who identify as Black, Indigenous and/or People of Color, low-income, young women, and LGBTQ+.
Through our events, our goal is to connect local leaders to new friends, fundraisers, and donors, helping to grow the movement. The larger our community is the better we all understand the intersections between environmental and other social issues.
Applications will be evaluated by a panel of Climate Ride board members, staff, and community members.
In 2023, our participants and donors have helped to fund 39 spots for Community Leaders on the Green Fondo events (these are weekend events).

What is included/expected with each award?
1) One spot on the ride. You can see what is included on the ride on the event webpage. (Certain incidentals are not included). We recommend that nominees be located near the ride start.
2) We send a post-ride survey for Awardees to share their experience and quotations. These may be shared for fundraising/awareness purposes.
What is not included?
Bike equipment and gear and additional funds to cover incidentals. If you have questions about what you will need to train and participate in the ride, please reach out to us.
Do I need to fundraise?
No, it is not required. Although, we suggest each awardee attempt to raise at least $300 so they gain fundraising experience. All past awardees have been able to raise $300 and many have kept going well past it. One of the goals of the program is to expand the fundraising skill set of awardees and use fundraising as an added way to create bonds with your fellow team members.
Must I be on a team?
We recommend that Awardees be part of a team, either a local bicycle coalition or environmental organization. It can improve your experience and more deeply connect you with an advocacy organization.
Are travel expenses covered?
Priority will be given to nearby applications. However, a limited number of $100 stipends will be available to those in need. Once you have received the award, please contact us to let us know you would be interested in a stipend.
