Help support Missoula nonprofits by joining our community bike ride!

Come join us for a local ride and help raise awareness and funds for Missoula nonprofits doing essential work for our planet!

Joining Climate Ride gives you the opportunity to reach out to friends, family, and folks in your community with a message that the health of our planet is important to you. It’s a chance to talk about climate change and bolster your spirit with collective action. It’s a chance to invite people you care about to engage in a positive way with a global issue that can feel very overwhelming. This community event is a fun way to take action for the future of our planet, and by registering for this event and fundraising for organizations working in the environmental sector here in Missoula, you’re engaging and supporting the local efforts for a safer climate for us all. Fundraising is not required to participate, however, we encourage you to do so!

Our Missoula environmental nonprofits need your help and community support – so please say YES!

This event is put on in collaboration with these wonderful environmental nonprofits in our local community:

When you register, select up to three of these beneficiaries to receive your fundraising in the form of a grant from Climate Ride!

This ride is on Sunday, October 1st, 2023. Check-in starts at 9 AM. The ride starts at 10 AM. We’ll send you more details about the route and day-of schedule after you register.

This is a ride for all ages, levels, and speeds! We will have three route options:

  • A longer route option that includes gravel (10-30 miles)
  • A medium route option with gravel as well (5-10 miles)
  • A family-friendly Climate Protector ride (5 miles or less)*

*This year, we’re joining forces with Families for a Livable Climate, and incorporating their family-friendly Climate Protector ride as the short option for this event! We invite kids and adults alike to participate by donning superhero capes and bright costumes with banners to proclaim and celebrate our collective role as “climate protectors.” Our purpose is to promote biking as a climate solution, showcase our collective commitment toward building a livable future for all, and have fun doing it! Plus, if they’re inspired, this is a great opportunity for kids to take concrete climate action by helping to raise funds in a fun way for Missoula based organizations. Here’s a chance for them to make a big difference!

All participants should arrive ready to ride between 9 AM- 9:45 AM. We’ll have a mandatory safety talk at 9:45 AM and then roll out! After the rides, there will be a fun hang with food, activities and prizes! We will share the itinerary after you register. We expect to be wrapped up around 3:00 PM. There will be limited support on this ride, so please be prepared. Bring water and what you need to fix flats. Helmets are required!

Registration for the Missoula Climate Ride is FREE.

When you register, you will have the opportunity to kick things off with a donation and we encourage you to do so! You are provided a personal fundraising page so that you can spread the word and help raise funds. While we do not require you to fundraise to participate, we suggest trying to raise at least $100! Or, go big, and shoot for $500 or even $2,000 to earn a prize! All donations are tax-deductible. Please note that donations are not refundable.

We encourage you to get to know these Missoula beneficiaries and how your fundraising really has an impact on our community and future. Reaching out to friends and family is also an opportunity to chat about climate!

Ready to get started? Simply click the ‘Register Now’ button above. Each person or child that rides during this event will need to be registered.

Also, you can form a team and invite your friends to ride with you!

We look forward to seeing you on this great ride. Please email us if you have any questions! *

If you aren’t able to join but would like to help by making a donation, please click the ‘Roster’ tab and select a participant. You can then give to a participant’s fundraising, which will help our team reach our community grant goal. THANK YOU!

Why does Climate Ride matter?

Our Climate Ride participants have raised millions for climate, conservation, clean energy, and bike advocacy. These funds help drive important nonprofit work to protect the places and planet you love. Our rides give you the chance to take action by showing your support for organizations that are leading the way on climate change. This is a chance for anyone to join the Climate Ride community for one powerful push for the planet.

Every single dollar counts for these organizations fighting for the health of our planet.

At Climate Ride we are determined to see our grants program and its support for climate and active transportation survive and continue to thrive. Part of that effort includes keeping our community connected, growing, and learning how and where we can be a beacon of hope.

Your outreach and fundraising have profound ripple effects. Taking on this challenge is a statement about your values and your vision for our future. We welcome you!

Who are the beneficiaries?
  • Climate Ride
  • Climate Smart Missoula
  • Families for a Livable Climate
  • Free Cycles
  • Soil Cycle
Can I sign up my friends/family/pets?

We totally encourage you to sign up your friends and family! Please share the registration link with anyone. This is about building a community and bringing out the best in all of us.

We do ask that everyone who will be attending registers in order to help us plan accordingly. Additionally, there is an added Release and Waiver of Liability the legal guardians of participants who are under 18.

Parents/Legal Guardians, please register your children as well as yourself and be sure fill out the added liability waiver!

I just heard about this but can’t sign up now. Can I do it another time?

Of course! You can sign up now and do an activity of your choice at any time you like! Or, consider one of Climate Ride’s upcoming events! You can also considering donating to a participant’s fundraising page to show your support.

Can I use Facebook fundraising?

Yes, when your register you’ll receive a fundraising page. On that page, there are steps to link up to a Facebook fundraiser. It’s important to do this through your page so that the donations are immediately counted to your fundraising total!

Do I need to sign a waiver? What are the terms and conditions?

When you register you must agree to our Release and Waiver of Liability, Assumption of Risk, Indemnity, Authorization and Parental Consent Agreement (if you are participating with a minor, please email us for the minor release of liability). You will agree during your registration.

Do you have any resources (like photos and logos) that I can use?

We sure do! Download the photos in the gallery above, or check out our participant resources page for more!

What do I need to bring on the ride?

This is a self supported ride. While we will have a ride sweep, you’ll want to come prepared to fix minor bike issues yourself including flats. You will need to bring your own bike and helmet as well as water for the ride.

Please be sure to have at least one liter of water! A day pack or hydration pack for carrying water and the essentials – snacks, sunscreen, camera, rain gear, spare tube/ flat fixing kit, pump, etc – is the only thing you’ll need to carry with you on your bike.

Fundraising or Transferring

All registrations fees and donations are non-refundable for this event.

If you cannot attend the Missoula event and know in advance, you may request to transfer your fundraising to a future Climate Ride event. Donations cannot be transferred to another participant in the year you are registered or future years. Participants may transfer to another event within the same calendar year, or to an event in the next calendar year. Climate Ride requires that participants who transfer fundraise to meet or surpass the new event’s fundraising minimum and pay the full registration fee. Learn more about our policies here.

Participants who cancel their registration after the Transfer Deadline, the day of the event, are NOT eligible for a transfer. If you withdraw from the ride before the event day or don’t participate without notifying us, any fundraising you’ve received will go to support programs of Climate Ride.

Where does the ride start and end? What are the routes? Are the roads open to the public?

As we get closer to the event, we will send ride details to all registered riders.

There will be three route options, which you can select when you register.

The long option will be about 30 miles and includes gravel sections as well as active highway riding.

The medium option will be about 10 miles, including a gravel section.

The Climate Protector ride will be 0-5 miles.

After the ride, you’re welcome to head home but be sure to rejoin us for prizes, food, and fun as we welcome back the long option riders starting about 12-1 PM! Specific itinerary to follow

All of the routes are held through roads that are open to the public (there are no roads closures for Climate Ride Missoula).

You will receive route information via email ahead of the ride. Our chosen routes depend on a lot of factors, including what we’re able to obtain permits for, weather complications, difficulty, variety of terrain, and overall experience. Due to this variability, we are often still finalizing routes in the weeks leading up to a ride, and thus cannot share GPS routes for them. As soon as routes have been confirmed — usually a week or two before the ride — we will share that info with all participants via email.

Independent Challenge (Boston to LA)

Completing my cross-country cycle trip, from Boston to LA, as part of a Climate Ride independent challenge, really shaped my ride in meaningful way. I had been wanting to do a cross-country ride for personal reasons, but being able to fundraise for causes that I care deeply about during my ride gave me, what felt like an elevated purpose during my journey. The Climate Ride team was also so helpful in supportive, and not only in a fundraising sense, but also a “let’s go, you got this” sense as well. As someone who has never fundraised anywhere close to as much money as I did over the course of my cross-country trip, Climate Ride gave me so many helpful tips and hints in order to fundraise effectively. It can be hard keeping up a fundraiser while actively being on a cycle tour, and their support was instrumental in helping me to continue to raise funds throughout my trip. I also felt like I got to know some of their staff after back and forth phone calls before and during my trip, which was great. My independent challenge was life-changing for me, and I look forward to joining a Climate Ride event in the future!

Green Fondo California 2022

CASBA has benefitted greatly from our partnership with Climate Ride; thank you for all you’ve done for us, and so many others. For our organization, it’s funded getting various forms of straw building into the building code, and the Green Fondo funded our initiative to make it easier to insure buildings featuring straw for insulation.

Bio-based materials are lowering the embodied carbon of our buildings, and with their widespread use buildings can be the Earth’s sixth carbon sink. As we like to say: ‘Build Shelter – Not Too Big – Mostly Plants!’
