The mission of Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC) is to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. In particular, Climate Ride fundraising supports RTC’s Campaign for Active Transportation, which aims to develop trail, walking and bicycling networks in communities all around the country—and to dramatically shift the transportation paradigm in America to a less auto-centric culture. The campaign is part of a broader, ambitious strategy to see 90 percent of Americans living within three miles of a trail system by 2020.
