Black Girls Do Bike NYC shares a core common interest in growing and supporting a community of women of color who share a passion for cycling.
We champion efforts to introduce the joy of cycling to all women, but especially, black women and girls. We are establishing a comfortable place where BIPOC female cyclists can support, advise, organize meet-ups/rides and promote skill-sharing. We look to share positive images of women and their bikes that affirm the truth that black girls do indeed bike!
As a group of volunteers we seek funds to support a variety of community projects. Our members provide free education on bike riding skills and safety both inside and outside of our group. One of our main projects is to get more cars off the road by getting more riders on bikes. Bike riding requires equipment and is costly. Through donations we’ve been able to provide support to riders who could not afford bikes or equipment.
Some Community projects Include:
- Annual Very Pink October Breast Cancer awareness ride. Raises funds for a local charity that provides support specifically to BIPOC women in underserved NYC communities.
- Partner “New York City Harlem Skyscraper race”. Provides a kids ridding clinic as well coordinates the children’s race on Juneteenth, June 19th.
- Partner “Summer streets NYC”. Provides free education basic bike adjustments, tire pressure seat height adjustment and more. Engages public to increase visibility.
- Provides free online zoom courses for nutrition, cycling as well as fitness and exercise courses.
- Provides free progressive cycling training for new & advanced riders more comfortable and stronger on their rides.
- Created a ride leader training program that other groups have utilized. We lead rides weekends and have weekly training rides.
