Rider Spotlight: Stephen Stewart

Meet Stephen Stewart. Climate Ride California will be Stephen’s first Climate Ride, although long distance charitable bike rides are nothing new for him.

In 2009, Stephen rode from San Francisco to San Diego as a part of the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) Million Dollar Challenge. This year, “I wanted to see more of the northern part of California, and what a great way to see it—on a bike while supporting the environment.” Stephen’s beneficiary organization is the San Diego Bike Coalition and strongly believes that “we need more cyclists and cycling infrastructure! It’s a win-win for health and the environment.”

When he is not volunteering for the San Diego Bike Coalition teaching the Bike 101 class, he spends weekends riding with blind or visually impaired cyclists as the pilot or captain. Currently, Stephen and the Blind Stokers Club are training for a 2-day Cycling for Sight event in June.
