Climate Rise – 5K Run into the Hills Screaming

Feeling frustrated by climate inaction? Tired of reading the latest environmental headlines quietly at your desk? Climate Ride invites you to channel your eco-anxiety and passion into the world’s first-ever virtual “Run into the Hills Screaming” 5K!

Here’s how it works:
1. Choose your favorite hillside, trail, local park, or neighborhood path.
2. Join our virtual kickoff or don’t; just sleep in so that scream is well rested.
3. Together, we’ll count down and start our synchronized Earth Day run—screaming is not optional (and highly therapeutic!).
4. Capture video clips or photos of your best screams and share them using #ClimateScream2025.
5. Join us for a post-event “Group Scream Therapy Session” meetup at the White House or call your reps to scream and share your experience and then bask in the collective relief.

Event Highlights:
• Prizes for “Best Eco-Rant,” “Most Passionate Scream,” and “Most Confused Bystander Reaction”
• Safe outlet for climate stress, approved by absolutely no mental health professionals
• Community-building fun guaranteed to confuse neighbors and wildlife alike

What is your scream worth?

Climate change is making life harder—like trying to bike uphill in a headwind while juggling flaming torches. Not ideal. But don’t despair! Brave nonprofits are fighting back, despite only receiving about 3% of all charitable giving each year. So, it’s our turn to step up (and scream about it, literally).

Join Climate Ride’s oddly therapeutic “Run into the Hills Screaming” virtual 5K! Pick your favorite hill, park, or driveway, gather your friends, family, or that neighbor who’s always up for something weird, and let loose your best Earth Day scream. Capture your run, your rant, your passion—or just your confusion—and share it online.

Whether you run, jog, stroll, or dramatically saunter, your mission is simple: spread the word about climate action and raise funds for the planet. Want to livestream yourself narrating your climate anxieties mid-run? Go for it. Prefer walking in circles while loudly reciting environmental poetry? We’re here for it. Want to turn your scream into a catchy viral video? We’ll cheer you on—and we might even match your vocalizations, scream-for-scream.

This Earth Day, cyclists, walkers, hikers, skateboarders, gamers, pogo-stick enthusiasts, interpretive dancers, and everyone else—yes, even you—are invited to unleash your creativity (and your voice) for climate action. Choose from over 100 nonprofits to support, and remember: the louder, the better.

Signing up is easy, and creating a team is even easier (and more fun). Rally your squad, set your challenge, and scream proudly—because protecting the planet deserves our biggest, boldest voices!

This is just a joke, right?

Yes. But it doesn’t have to be. The truth is, what this administration is doing to our planet is no laughing matter. It’s also a tough time for non-profits. It is possible that the non-profits you love and value may not survive. And that means all they are doing to protect our air, our lands, our water might disappear too.

At Climate Ride we are determined to see our grants program and its support for climate and active transportation survive and continue to thrive. Part of that effort includes keeping our community connected, growing, and learning how and where we can be a beacon of hope.

So if enough people join the interest list and just want to run into the woods screaming, then hell yes, we will make it an event and give you a chance to fundraise. Your outreach and fundraising can have profound ripple effects. Taking on this challenge is a statement about your values and your vision for our future. Or just a release. We might even make a sticker to send you.

Who are the beneficiaries?

If you register through our Donor Drive platform, you can choose from the more than 100 incredible beneficiary organizations in the Climate Ride network! One of the things that make Climate Ride such an effective charitable event is that you can select the organization(s) you wish to benefit through the Climate Ride grants program. Our beneficiaries were selected for their work on the environment, conservation, sustainability, climate education, and active transportation advocacy.

We are grateful for your support.

Can I sign up my friends/family/pets?

We totally encourage you to! Please share the registration link with anyone. This is about building a community and bringing out the best in all of us.

I just heard about this but can’t sign up now. Can I do it another time?

Of course! Officially, this earth day event will happen on 4/20. But it’s virtual, so practically speaking, you can take off screaming into the hills any day you damn well please. We just recommend you do it before 5 AM so you wake a few more people up to the dire state of this country’s environmental protections.

Partnering with Climate Ride as part of Climate Rise was an amazing and rewarding experience. Took the stress of the background work behind a fundraiser, and they were there helping and supporting along the way! Would join them again in the future. 10/10

After participating in seven Climate Ride events (eight if you count Climate Rise!) I continue to be impressed with the Climate Ride staff as well as the community of riders–I couldn’t ask to be part of a kinder, more thoughtful, and incredibly fun group of people, all brought together by our desire to combine our passions for cycling with making the world a better place.

I just participated in my first Climate Ride in Western New York. It certainly will not be my last! The event was very well organized. It was a wonderful group of people that care about one of the great challenges we face today, climate change. Even more important, it was group of people trying to address this problem by personally taking action to make change happen to better our world.

Glacier Ride 2022 may be the best life experiences I have ever had. The park is fantastic, the guides and crew worked so hard to make it go well and were so fun to be around. I am a quiet person and everyone made me feel included. I’ve made some lifelong friends.
