Gore Urges Senate To Avoid Kyoto-Type Failure

NPR Morning Edition · When Vice President Al Gore returned from Kyoto, Japan, with a climate treaty in 1997, it was already a dead letter. The Senate, which ratifies treaties, strongly opposed the deal even before Gore signed it. On Wednesday, Gore returned to the Senate to offer advice about how to arrive at a different outcome as a new climate treaty is negotiated this year in Copenhagen, Denmark. The federal calendar is packed with pressing business in 2009. One of the toughest deadlines is to lay the groundwork for the international climate talks in Copenhagen. Sen. John Kerry (D-MA),

A Mom Speaks Out

In addition to our regular bloggers (see right sidebar), we are inviting a few Climate Riders to share their perspectives. Today's piece is from Jenny Nordstrom of Washington, DC.
I signed up for the Climate Ride on July 8th, about 9 weeks ago. That day, I received an e-mail newsletter from Rails to Trails, and the feature story was about the Climate Ride. My heart started pounding, and I think I immediately knew that I was going to do this event. I sent a quick e-mail to my husband – “Doesn’t this look amazing??” And then about 10 minutes later, I signed up.
