Four Tips for Fundraising by Deb Janes

Deb’s a nonprofit fundraiser, and treated raising money for the Climate Ride as a miniature fundraising campaign.

Here’s how she raised $2,930.00 in support of the beneficiary organizations and especially for her beloved San Francisco Bicycle Coalition.

  1. She identified her ‘major donors’, talked with or emailed them individually to let them know why she was excited to raise money for the Climate Ride.
  2. She then asked each one for a specific gift (either $250 or $500).
  3. After she had secured those handful of gifts, she ent personalized individual email solicitations to each person I identified who had somewhat of a capacity to support me, had an interest in the main issues and had a connection to me.
  4. Again, I asked each person for a specific amount (in the range of $50 - $100). Everyone I asked gave (I had to nudge a few donors).

Deb says, “In total, I have 29 donors. I look forward to writing each one a personal thank you card when I'm done with the ride.”
