First Climate Hike Sets Out This Weekend!

Climate Hikers and their expert guides from Glacier Guides/Montana Raft Co. will be out on the trails from August 24 – 28, 2014 on the first-ever hike offered by Climate Ride. Climate Hike is a 5-day adventure into the country’s wildest national park – Glacier – which is situated within the “Crown of the Continent” in Western Montana. Hikers will spend four days traversing the arêtes and high alpine passes of Glacier National Park, seeing first-hand an ecosystem severely threatened by climate change and environmental degradation. The 50-mile hiking challenge will culminate with a raft trip down the Middle Fork of the Flathead River.

Carefully planned, yet physically demanding routes will challenge the Climate Hikers to trek up to 16 miles per day. In the evenings, they will have the opportunity to learn about the natural and cultural history of the park and how global-scale environmental changes will affect the Glacier National Park ecosystem.

All of the 33 hikers – whom hail from 13 states and the District of Columbia – have already shown their tenacity and commitment by reaching their fundraising goals. Together, they have raised over $100,000.00 for conservation, climate and active transportation causes. This empowering experience, of raising funds for the cause and then taking on a physical challenge in the outdoors, has a profound impact on participants personally and helps them to give back to their communities. Bravo Climate Hikers!
