How far would you pedal for a green energy future? Join the Climate Ride bike pedal and rally at the U.S. Capitol on September 30th, 2009!
Everyone is invited. We would like to have as many people as possible (bike advocates, non-profits, green jobs advocates, environmentalists, diplomatic staff, family friends, everyday folks who like to rally for a great cause!). You can meet us to ride at 3:15pm or meet us at the West Lawn of the Capitol for the rally at 3:45pm. (see map below)
Here is the Climate Ride bike rally information:
WHAT: Climate Ride, a 300-mile benefit bike ride to raise awareness of climate change, clean energy opportunities and COP15, beginning in NYC and ending with a rally at the U.S. Capitol.
WHEN: September 30th, 3:15pm. Riders will gather at Thompson Boat Center (corner of Rock Creek Parkway and Virginia Ave NW) at 3:15pm for a 3:30 en masse departure to the US Capitol. Be sure to arrive with a bicycle for this segment. If needed, see bike rental information below.
WHERE: Riders will pedal up Constitution Ave. to the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol for a rally.
WHO: Audience: 100+ Climate Riders, Ambassadors, and 500 + supporters from the DC area. Speakers include Senator Ben Cardin (MD); Congressman Earl Blumenauer (OR); Betsy Taylor of 1Sky; Keith Laughlin, President of Rails-to-Trails Conservancy; Alisa Gravitz, Executive Director of Green America; and members of Congress (TBA) and more!
WHY: To call for action in the Senate and at COP15 on climate policy.
BIKE RENTAL (if needed): http://bikethesites.com/rentals.htm This is a Washington DC based bike rental company. Rentals come with bike helmets. It is a very short ride (3 miles), so the riders should be dressed comfortably in shorts or casual slacks. Check the weather that day!

FYI-There will be several ambassadors from around the world gathering with Ambassador Petersen of Denmark (host country of COP15) to ride together. We will have a photo opportunity at the Capitol with an AP photographer and other professional photographers to capture this moment!
