MIKAEL COLVILLE-ANDERSEN Writer/director/photographer/blogger to speak at Brita Climate Ride 2009!
Denmark‟s leading bicycle ambassador and advocate, the multitalented Mikael Colville-Andersen, visits New York on September 27-28. The occasion is Brita Climate Ride 2009 from New York to Washington D.C. as well as the opening in Portland of the exhibition Dreams on Wheels on Danish cycling culture for urban sustainability. Colville‟s passionate and tireless commitment to the debate on cycling as an environ-mentally friendly, viable, and sustainable transportation alternative, has won him invitations to speak on several significant occasions during his U.S. tour.
Colville has a broad background in various media industries, and possess many fruitful and cross cultural resources to approach the everlasting apple of his eye: bicycle culture. Starting as a film director and writer he later focused on photography and has among other things photographed all visual material to the current Dreams on Wheels exhibit. For the past couple of years he has run several blogs, branding Copenhagen as the world‟s leading bicycle capital. He tells individual and collective stories documenting the city‟s unique “two wheeled” environment from an anthropological point of view, integrating pieces of history and anecdotes to present this theme of “Copenhagenizing” bicycling culture in a contemporary and global context. Exploring urban environments he captures distinctive bicycle attitudes and styles with his camera, and is known as the inventor of the term “bicycle chic”.
