Thanks to the donations of our 2008 Climate Riders, Clean Air-Cool Planet (CA-CP) is charging ahead, providing remarkable educational opportunities for young climate leaders. Thanks to you, Clean Air-Cool Planet was able to provide competitive, real-world Fellowships for eight college and university students in the Northeast.
These students worked on a variety of challenging and catalytic projects, including inventorying greenhouse gas emissions in southwestern New Hampshire, creating a New York State climate change toolkit for community governments, and customizing a version of CA-CP’s Climate Change Backpack® educational tool for young people in the Mid-Atlantic states.
One inspired Fellow said that the fellowship was“a highlight of my experience as a graduate student in community planning,” while a second Fellow added that she “was very impressed with the preparedness and professional level of opportunity that the Fellowship offered.”
This leadership development is critical to the transition to a clean and green economy in the years to come.
That’s not all! CA-CP also applied Climate Ride funding toward its after-school program on climate change, a six-unit course designed for public school students in grades four through six.
To date, they have offered this program free of charge to nearly 300 students at schools in several urban centers in Connecticut, including Stamford, Norwalk, Bridgeport and Hartford. Educators from five science centers led the courses, earning stipends for their own local institutions and bringing climate science and solutions the next generation of environmental leaders.
CA-CP is thrilled to be a part of our amazing Brita Climate Ride adventure again in 2009! To find out more about them, visit www.cleanair-coolplanet.org or call (603) 422-6464.
