Criteria for Supporting New Climate Ride Beneficiaries
Part of Climate Ride’s mission is to raise funds for beneficiary organizations through Climate Ride events. If you would like to participate on an upcoming Climate Ride and support a specific organization with your fundraising that isn’t on our current list of approved beneficiaries, here’s how to start the process:
***Climate Ride will begin reviewing nominations for new 2012 beneficiaries in November on a rolling basis***
Climate Ride approves non-profit organizations that:
1) Align best with our mission and goals
2) Are a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
3) Are highly rated by donors and volunteers (if applicable, Charity Navigator and GuideStar rankings are considered during the application process).
4) Complete the beneficiary application process and provide the required documentation.
5) Are reviewed by the Beneficiary Selection Committee and approved by the Climate Ride Board of Directors.
While Climate Ride welcome organizations to contact us directly if they believe they would be a good candidate for beneficiary status, we will first consider applications from organizations that have been referred to us by current or registering event participants.
If you are interested in suggesting an organization to be added to the collection of Climate Ride beneficiaries, please send a Letter of Inquiry to info@climateride.org.
The purpose of the letter of inquiry is to determine if an organization and its proposal fit within Climate Ride's eligibility guidelines before the organization expends resources to put together a full proposal.
In your Letter of Inquiry:
Briefly state the organization's mission and project goals, and what you would like to see your fundraising support.
Provide contact information (name, phone, and email) for the person at the organization who would be handling the beneficiary application process, such as the development director.
Tell us how you learned about Climate Ride (if you are a rider, a potential rider, or an organization that would like to reach out to its members to create a team).
Based on the information in your letter, Climate Ride will determine if your organization would be eligible to apply for beneficiary status.
Deadlines:
We accept and approve applications on a rolling basis.
Once Climate Ride decides to move forward with a new beneficiary based on your email, we expect the organization to complete their application in a timely manner and provide the required documentation immediately. To streamline the process, we recommend contacting your preferred organization before suggesting them to Climate Ride.
