BRITA CLIMATE RIDE GEARING UP FOR WEST COAST ENVIRONMENTAL BIKE RIDE;

ONLY 30 SPOTS LEFT

More than one hundred cyclists from all over the U.S. to set out on a 320-mile, 5-day ride in Northern California to raise awareness of the climate crisis and clean energy

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - August 16, 2010: Brita Climate Ride California is nearly ready to roll this September 21-25, 2010 from Fortuna, CA (near Eureka) to San Francisco. Registration is still open and 30 spots are left for cyclists to sign up. This year's event, sponsored by Brita, will see more than 100 cyclists pedaling 320 miles along a portion of the classic Pacific Coast Bike Route. This "climate conference on wheels" and fundraiser is designed to raise awareness of the climate crisis and renewable energy. Participants can currently register online at www.climateride.org.  The flagship Brita Climate Ride East Coast Classic event will take place again in Summer 2011.

Caeli Quinn, co-founder and director of Climate Ride, said the ride is a positive way for people to express their frustration over the recent domestic oil spills. "Climate Ride galvanizes some of the greatest ‘green' leaders in the country and profoundly inspires people to take action. We have a unique event planned for this year in California with some notable participants like ocean rower Roz Savage, green business icon Hunter Lovins, and environmental author David Helvarg. We also have several new corporate teams this year including the Brita Bikers, Team Sun Light & Power, Team Clif Bar, Team RTC, Team Green America, Team San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, and more."

This year's event - Brita Climate Ride California 2010 - will raise funds for three hardworking non-profits: Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, Green America, and 1Sky.   Climate Ride is the first multi-day, multi-city bicycle ride to address climate change and renewable energy issues.  Climate Ride also endeavors to show that the bicycle is the ultimate carbon-free machine and a viable form of transportation.

Brita Climate Ride California begins under towering redwoods along the Avenue of the Giants in Humboldt Redwoods State Park, before turning west toward the coast for two full days of some of the most scenic cycling in America. After a quick spin through the Russian River Wine Country, Climate Riders will pedal through Marin before heading across the Golden Gate Bridge to finish at New Belgium Brewery's Tour de Fat party in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Along the way, Climate Ride's nightly speaker series will inform and entertain Climate Riders through educational talks about solutions to the climate crisis, bike advocacy and living green.

Like the Climate Riders, Brita, which has sponsored Climate Ride since its first event in September 2008, is dedicated to making the Earth a greener place. Thanks to Brita, there won't be any empty bottled water containers along the route; the riders are supplied with Brita filtered water in special FilterForGood bike bottles. To learn more about Brita's FilterForGood movement to reduce bottled water waste and inspire other simple changes that are better for the Earth, visit www.filterforgood.com.

Registration includes a personal fundraising web page, training/logistical support, and access to a nationwide network of Climate Riders. The ride includes a cycling jersey, campsites, luggage transfer, road support, meals, bike mechanics, bike guides, and the nightly expert speaker series. Each Climate Rider pays a registration fee of $75 and then fundraises at least $2,400 to participate in Brita Climate Ride California 2010.

Many participants are finding the fundraising requirement to be easier than expected, says co-founder and director Geraldine Carter. "We've found that new participants are skeptical that they can raise the required minimum amount in the current economy, however after they begin using our fundraising software and new interface with Facebook, they discover that their family and friends are happy to support their efforts. We have many riders who have exceeded the minimum already and show no signs of stopping, which is great because a large percentage of these donations go directly to the tangible efforts of our beneficiaries."

CLIMATE RIDE ANNOUNCES NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH

SAN FRANCISCO BICYCLE COALITION

SFBC to benefit from environmental bike ride; Team San Francisco Bicycle Coalition forming for 300-mile, 5-day ride in Northern California to raise awareness of the climate crisis and clean energy

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - June 10, 2010: Climate Ride announced today a new partnership with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition for Climate Ride California 2010 this September 21-25. The agreement includes joint promotion and the formation of Team San Francisco Bicycle Coalition during this year's event, resulting in a portion of funds raised by team members going directly to support bicycle advocacy projects at the Coalition. Registration for Team San Francisco Bicycle Coalition and more information can be found at http://tiny.cc/teamsfbc.

"One of Climate Ride's goals is to showcase the bicycle as one of the most powerful solutions to the climate crisis," said Caeli Quinn, Co-Founder and Director of Climate Ride. "So partnering with the SF Bicycle Coalition is a natural fit. We fully support their mission of promoting the bicycle for everyday transportation. If our Climate Riders can pedal 300 miles in 5 days for the climate, then many more people can forgo their carbon-based transportation and ride a bike to work each day."

This year's event - Brita Climate Ride California 2010 - will also raise funds for three hardworking non-profits, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, Green America, and 1Sky.   Climate Ride is the first multi-day, multi-city bicycle ride to address climate change and renewable energy issues.  Climate Ride also endeavors to show that the bicycle is the ultimate carbon-free machine and a viable form of everyday transportation.

"We anticipate this new partnership with Climate Ride will be mutually beneficial for both organizations," said Jodie Medeiros, Development Director for the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition. "We're especially excited about having a presence on the ride as Team San Francisco Bicycle Coalition. Not only can we share our mission of utilizing bikes for daily transportation with the Climate Ride community, but we will also be raising funds to help improve the bicycle infrastructure in San Francisco through our Citywide Bike Network campaign."

Climate Ride California 2010 is titled-sponsored by Brita and will take place September 21-25, 2010, beginning near Eureka, CA and finishing in San Francisco. Climate Ride will see hundreds of cyclists pedaling more than 300 miles along a portion of the classic Pacific Coast Bike Route. This "climate conference on wheels" and fundraiser is designed to raise awareness of the climate crisis and renewable energy, and has taken place for the past two years from New York City to Washington, DC. Registration is currently open to 200 cyclists at www.climateride.org.  The original Climate Ride East Coast Classic event will take place again in June 2011.

Climate Ride is the first bicycle tour where pedal strokes help raise money and awareness of climate change and hope for a future powered by renewable energy and a green economy. The ride offers people who share a passion for green living and cycling a chance to journey toward making a difference. Like the Climate Riders, Brita, once again the title sponsor, is dedicated to making the Earth a greener place. Thanks to Brita, there won't be any empty bottled water containers along the route; the riders are supplied with Brita filtered water in special FilterForGood bike bottles.

Each Climate Rider pays a registration fee of $75 and then fundraises at least $2,400 to participate in Brita Climate Ride California 2010. For more information about Climate Ride, Team San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, or to support a participant, please visit www.climateride.org.

BRITA CLIMATE RIDE RETURNS FOR THIRD YEAR; EXPANDS TO CALIFORNIA

3rd Annual Ride and "Climate Conference on Wheels"

To Take Place Sept 21-25, 2010 From Eureka to San Francisco

Hundreds of cyclists from all over the U.S. will set out on a 300-mile, 5-day ride in Northern California to raise awareness of the climate crisis and clean energy

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - March 25, 2010: Brita Climate Ride will return for its third year this September, and registration is now open to 250 cyclists. For 2010, the organization is "going west" to California beginning the ride near Eureka (Fortuna) and ending in San Francisco. This year's event, title-sponsored by Brita, is called Brita Climate Ride California 2010 and will take place September 21-25, 2010. The event will see hundreds of cyclists pedaling more than 300 miles along a portion of the classic Pacific Coast Bike Route. This "climate conference on wheels" and fundraiser is designed to raise awareness of the climate crisis and renewable energy, and has taken place for the past two years from New York City to Washington, DC. Participants can currently register online at www.climateride.org.  The original Climate Ride East Coast Classic event will take place again in May 2011.

Caeli Quinn, co-founder and director of Climate Ride, said the ride is a positive way for people to express their concern about the climate crisis. "Climate Ride is an extraordinary way for climate influencers, community connectors, bike advocates, and the general public to mix and mingle while pedaling along the scenic California coast. It's exactly what's needed right now. The climate movement has seen some setbacks in the last year with the so-called ‘climate-gate' and stagnation at the COP15 Climate Conference last year in Copenhagen. Climate Ride galvanizes some of the greatest ‘green' leaders in the country and profoundly inspires people to take action."

Last year, on September 30th, 2009, during Brita Climate Ride 2009, more than 400 exuberant cyclists rode en masse to the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington D.C.  The 140 event participants were joined by more than 300 local cyclists for the final leg into Washington to create a greater impact. This was the thrilling end to a 300-mile bike ride that began in the heart of New York City and meandered through beautiful countryside in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. Each evening, expert speakers met with Climate Riders to discuss the science, policies and issues surrounding climate  and  energy.  Upon the Climate Riders' triumphant arrival in Washington D.C., they had the opportunity to meet personally with their senators and representatives.

This year's event - Brita Climate Ride California 2010 - will raise funds for three hardworking non-profits, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, Green America, and 1Sky.   Climate Ride is the first multi-day, multi-city bicycle ride to address climate change and renewable energy issues.  Climate Ride also endeavors to show that the bicycle is the ultimate carbon-free machine and a viable form of transportation.

Climate Ride is especially unique because of its expert speaker series, says co-founder and director, Geraldine Carter.  "This is the first climate conference on wheels.  Our riders pedal all day and then have the opportunity to hear from some the brightest minds in climate change and renewable energy in the evening.  Our riders finish Climate Ride with an in-depth understanding of climate issues and are inspired to rally friends and family to help resolve the most important issue facing humanity."

Embassy of Denmark to Sponsor 2nd Annual Climate Ride -- Official Press Release May 28, 2009

Government of Denmark Supports Climate Ride, the 5-day Non-Profit Bike Ride from NYC-DC, to Raise Awareness of Upcoming COP15 Climate Conference.

WASHINGTON D.C. - May 28, 2009: The Climate Ride organization has signed a sponsorship agreement with the Embassy of Denmark to increase support among the American public for the COP15 United Nations Climate Change Conference scheduled for December 7 to 18, 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark. As part of the sponsorship agreement, the COP 15 Conference will be the "Presenting Sponsor" of the Brita Climate Ride 2009, while Climate Ride will help raise awareness of the upcoming historic international treaty among its participants, sponsors, partners, and the public before and during its annual 'climate conference on wheels' slated for September 26-30, 2009 from New York City to Washington, DC.

"With the COP15 Climate Conference around the corner, we need to see a significant commitment to addressing the threat of climate change and increasing renewable energy options in the U.S.," said Caeli Quinn, Co-Founder and Director of Climate Ride. "This sponsorship will help Brita Climate Ride to grow in the U.S. and to increase public awareness of this historic conference. We're thrilled the government of Denmark has chosen Climate Ride as one of its main vehicles for delivering the message that the United States must be a leader at the COP15. With the Kyoto Protocol expiring in 2012, it's time to step up and set international agreements in place that curb greenhouse gas emissions to stabilize the atmosphere."

The COP15 Conference is the fifteenth Conference of the Parties (COP) under the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and will replace the Kyoto Protocol that was drafted in 1997 and is set to expire in 2012. The COP15 conference will take place from December 7-18, 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The COP is the highest body of the UNFCCC and consists of environmental ministers who meet once a year to discuss the convention's developments. Nearly 200 countries are expected to take part in the proceedings, and at least 10,000 people, including observers, industry groups and non-governmental organizations will be in attendance. The goals of the convention are to stabilize the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere at a level that prevents dangerous manmade climate changes, in such a way as to give ecosystems the opportunity to adapt naturally. Food safety must not be compromised and the potential to create sustainable social and economic development must not be endangered.

"The country of Denmark is inviting the world to participate in the global debate that will take place at the COP15," said Torsten Jansen, Minister Counselor for the Embassy of Denmark. "2009 is a crucial year in the international effort to address climate change, and it will culminate at the COP15 where we hope to shape an ambitious and effective international response to the growing threat of too much carbon in the atmosphere. As part of our outreach efforts, we have selected to sponsor the annual Climate Ride event because it is an excellent way to reach thousands, if not millions, of people who might otherwise not know about the importance of the COP15. This is a grassroots effort, which makes it a perfect match for our goal of reaching out to Americans."

Brita Climate Ride is returning for its second year this September, and registration is now open to 250 cyclists. This year's event will take place September 26-30, 2009, and will once again see hundreds of cyclists pedal beautiful country roads from New York City to Washington, DC. Participants can currently register online at www.climateride.org. Last year, on September 24th, 2008, during Brita Climate Ride 2008, more than 100 exuberant cyclists rode en masse to the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington D.C. This was the thrilling end to a 300-mile bike ride that began in the heart of New York City and meandered through beautiful countryside in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. As part of the sponsorship from the Danish government, three trips to the COP15 conference will be awarded to young climate leaders participating in a Climate Ride funded fellowship program.

The 2009 ride event raises funds for three hardworking non-profits, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (DC), Clean Air-Cool Planet (Connecticut) and Focus the Nation (Oregon). Brita Climate Ride is the first charity bicycle tour where pedal strokes help raise money and awareness of climate change and hope for a future powered by renewable energy and a green economy. The ride offers people who share a passion for green living and cycling a chance to journey toward making a difference. Like the Climate Riders, Brita, once again the title sponsor, is dedicated to making the Earth a greener place. Thanks to Brita there won't be any empty bottled water containers along the route; the riders are supplied with Brita filtered water in special FilterForGood bike bottles. To learn more about Brita's efforts visit http://www.filterforgood.com. Climate Ride also endeavors to show that the bicycle is the ultimate carbon-free machine and a viable form of transportation. REGISTRATION NOW OPEN FOR CLIMATE RIDE 2009
2nd Annual Ride and "Climate Conference on Wheels"
To Take Place September 26 - 30, 2009

Hundreds of cyclists from all over the U.S. will set out on a 300-mile, 5-day ride from New York City to Washington D.C. to fight climate change and raise awareness of renewable energy

NEW YORK CITY - December 11, 2008: Registration is now open for the 2nd annual Climate Ride, a "climate conference on wheels" and fundraiser to fight climate change and raise awareness of renewable energy. This year's event will take place September 26-30, 2009, and will once again see hundreds of cyclists ride from New York City to Washington, DC. Participants can currently register online at www.climateride.org.

Caeli Quinn, co-founder and director of Climate Ride, said the ride is a positive way for people to express their concern about climate change. "This has been a remarkable year for the advancement of climate change awareness in the U.S., but we need to see a significant commitment to curbing global warming and increasing renewable energy options," Quinn said. "Not only does Climate Ride show that it is possible to connect two of the greatest cities in the U.S. by bicycle, but we also educate and inspire along the way. Then we exercise one of our most important rights as Americans, to pay a visit to Congress. The hundred or more riders, and the thousands of people who sponsored them, make this journey possible and send a message straight to Washington-that America must take action to arrest climate change and become energy independent."

Highlights from the trip included pedaling across the iconic Delaware River, along rolling hills in Valley Forge National Park, and a scenic day of riding through Amish country.

Each evening, expert speakers met with Climate Riders to discuss the science, policies and issues surrounding climate change and renewable energy. Upon the Climate Riders' triumphant arrival in Washington D.C., they had the opportunity to meet personally with their senators and representatives.

Last year's event raised funds for two hardworking non-profits, Clean Air-Cool Planet (Connecticut) and Focus the Nation (Oregon). This year, Climate Ride will once again benefit these two organizations. Climate Ride is the first group bicycle ride to address climate change and renewable energy issues. Climate Ride also endeavors to show that the bicycle is the ultimate carbon-free machine and a viable form of transportation.

Climate Ride is especially unique because of its expert speaker series, says co-founder and director, Geraldine Carter. "This is the first climate conference on wheels. The ride offered people who share a passion for green living and cycling a chance to journey toward making a difference. Like the Climate Riders, Brita, the 2008 title sponsor, is dedicated to taking meaningful action on climate change and making the Earth a greener place. Thanks to Brita, there weren't any empty bottled water containers along the route; the riders were supplied with Brita filtered water in special FilterForGood bike bottles. Each Climate Rider will fundraise at least $2,400 to participate in Climate Ride 2009, with proceeds benefiting Focus the Nation and Clean Air - Cool Planet, non-profit organizations dedicated to educating, engaging and motivating Americans to take action against climate change.
